This page provides information about the different services, support and opportunities WERS offers for asylum seekers and refugees.

Face-to-Face:

Drop ins: Monday and Thursday
10am-1pm

Appointments: please visit drop in to book an appointment.

If you have an issue that you need help with – housing, education, health, benefits, education, accessing legal advice – you can bring this to us, we will help you directly or connect you with the support you need.

Material Support

WERS works with local food banks, charities and local communities to provide food parcels, toiletries, nappies and sanitary products, clothes and basic household goods. If you need this practical support please contact the office or visit one of the drop-ins using the details above.

Financial Support - Hardship Fund

 If you have had a negative decision on your asylum claim and need to register with our hardship fund, you can visit the North of England Refugee Service (NERS) who will help you. If you need support with this, please call our office on 0191 273 7482 or visit one of our drop-ins.


Volunteering

If you would like to volunteer, WERS offers two options. You can register with skillsmatch to volunteer at local organisations - we will give you support to do this. You can also apply to volunteer at WERS.

Buddying

If you would like to get support from a volunteer who you can spend time with socially, show you around the city, you get to know your local area, practice your English, support you to settle and make connections, you can refer yourself to our buddying scheme.
