OUR PROGRAMMES

WERS exists to champion the North East as a Region of Sanctuary by providing services that go beyond traditional support.

Through engagement with our services, we empower people to shape their own futures and reclaim their autonomy.

Our programmes are led and informed by individuals with lived experience of seeking asylum, positioning us as a catalyst for capacity building.

We challenge the systemic barriers that marginalise refugees, driving meaningful change that creates lasting impact in our community.

  • Information, Advice, Advocacy & Support

    Information, Advice, Advocacy & Support

We provide a safe space for people seeking asylum and refugees to access support with their asylum claims, mental health, and access to essential services.

We do this to empower them so that they not only navigate these immediate challenges but also build the confidence and skills to lead change within their communities and reclaim control over their futures.

  • Development and Progression

    Development and Progression

We help people build their capacity through tailored volunteering placements and employability schemes that align with their personal ambitions.

We facilitate two-way integration, ensuring that both refugees and local communities grow together, exchanging skills, culture and understanding to create a more cohesive and supportive society.

  • Impact through collaboration

    Impact through collaboration

We challenge injustice and leave no room for xenophobia by actively working within the community, delivering training and awareness talks, and campaigning on issues that matter most to those we support.
