WERS Meets with Chi Onwurah MP

Last week, representatives of our Advisory Panel and Campaigns Group met with Chi Onwurah MP, Member of Parliament for Newcastle Central and West.

We expressed our gratitude to Chi for her ongoing support in championing the rights of refugees and people seeking asylum.

During the meeting, we discussed the challenges faced by those seeking sanctuary and were reassured by her continued commitment to Newcastle City as a City of Sanctuary.

The Campaigns Group also raised the pressing issue of the Right to Work for people seeking asylum after six months in the UK. Chi assured us that she would follow up on this matter with the Minister of State for Border Security and Asylum, Dame Angela Eagle MP.
